Join our research group, Autonomous Control and Operations, located in Princeton, NJ, for a 3-6 month internship, and contribute to the development and deployment of innovative AI and vision solutions for industrial applications. Our close contact with different business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial challenges. During this internship, you will experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. Key responsibilities: • Contribute to industrial research projects focused on AI and computer vision for various applications, such as visual inspection, predictive maintenance, and autonomous systems. • Develop and implement AI models, including deep learning architectures, for image and video analysis in industrial settings. • Work with real-world industrial datasets, including multi-modal data, to train, validate, and deploy AI solutions. • Explore and experiment with different AI paradigms, from traditional machine learning to agentic systems and Large Language Models (LLMs), for industrial use cases. • Collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in AI, computer vision, and industrial automation across Siemens research and business units. Basic Qualifications: • MS or PhD student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field. • Programming proficiency in Python — including experience writing clean, modular, reusable code and working with AI/ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras. • Foundational knowledge of modern AI systems architectures and deployment strategies for industrial applications. • Hands-on experience working with real-world data, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model training. • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal. • Legally residing in the United States of America and hold a valid work permit for the US. Preferred Qualification: • Practical experience in computer vision, including object detection, segmentation, classification, or anomaly detection. • Familiarity with agentic systems, reinforcement learning, or the application of Large Language Models (LLMs) in industrial contexts. • Experience with multi-modal data processing and fusion (e.g., combining visual data with sensor data). • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) for AI model deployment and MLOps. • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols or embedded systems for edge AI deployments. • Experience with software development best practices: version control (Git), unit testing (pytest), and technical documentation. • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts across AI, computer vision, and industrial engineering. A successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
